All Hollow
Eve of ghostly emotions let loose
from a chained, clang-banging harried heart
Moaning like gap-toothed children
without a bag of sweets—nothing good to eat
Smelly like defeat and deceased goals
under withering trees, beyond hope of fruition
Today is the day of eternal haunting
Tonight is our last, dear dead skeletal friend
Tomorrow may you RIP with my ripped-out heart

Strong stuff. I know you've expressed your considerable dislike for Halloween in the past, but its ancient weight is used to good effect in this piece.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love your title.
Aw, I like Halloween. Clark's right about your imagery, though, it takes full advantage of the season.
